About Syd
Syd is the founder and visionary behind UK Virtual School, an online school set up in the peak of the pandemic. During this time the need for an alternative online education system became important. UKVS was born out of many families contacting Syd to set something up that was high quality, flexible and affordable. Syd, an award-winning educational disruptor, has extensive experience in education spanning over 13 years. She worked as a qualified teacher in state, grammar and private schools before becoming a full-time entrepreneur. During this time, she has worked with over 13,000 children, including home educating families.

Key take aways

Hope enjoys the flexibility of UKVS. She engages in many activities during the daytime hours, and fits her lessons around her weekly activities, which include Rhythmic Gymnastics, helping out at a local Farm and Horse Riding.
The laid back teaching methods of the UKVS teachers really suit Hope. At traditional school, she didn't engage with English at all, but after she was encouraged to write a story about Volcanoes, English has become her favourite subject. She's even setting about writing a (MASSIVE) book in her own time!
Hope is finding it much easier to be heard in the smaller online class sizes. If she has a question for the teacher, she uses the chat box, and knows it will be answered at a suitable time. She feels the teachers have more time to help her and focus on her needs.
